Oh the mountains of trash from the packaging of Christmas presents. I'm not talking about where YOU are, I'm talking about little old Zaruma, waaaay down here in Ecuador.

Even if you didn't bat an eye at my recent suggestion to learn about global population and food production, fine. That was a pretty dry presentation anyways. Here's another simple as pie way to educate yourself in the fast-paced and illustrated/animated fashion that seems to be the norm these days. By the way, is your pillow flame retardant? Cool. Enjoy!

Thank you for providing a good excuse for boycotting the gift-buying tradition of Christmas. Perhaps in the future I will tell my relatives, ¨I´m boycotting presents on Christmas because this consumerist tradition harms nature by wasting resources.¨ I would much prefer a less-hectic winter holiday when family gets together only for company, peaceful relations, relaxation, and indulgence in food.
Adults giving presents to children who are unable to get these for themselves is reasonable. However, adults buying gifts for adults, not out of desire but out of obligation, is silly. ¨Inefficient¨ is how I normally describe the Christmas gift-giving tradition. It´s also wasteful because people buy presents not to fill someone´s need, but only out of obligation to give something. Often people receive more than they need during Christmas. Often a person will receive a gift that he/she does not want, and this is also a hurt to the person who shopped for and bought the gift, especially when the giver only bought the gift out of obligation.
The gift-giving tradition also causes unnecessary stress to the buyers, as their cars (polluting the air and burning fossil fuels) overcrowd shopping-center parking lots while frustrated drivers honk or get into fights over parking spaces.
I´m so glad that I got to skip Christmas this year by being out of the country.
