Cowboy camping on the top of a firefighting cistern. The concrete was flat, protected from rattlers, and surprisingly warm since it radiated the sun's heat much of the night.


Eagle Rock, in the meadows before Warner Springs, that amazing oasis in the heat.


Thru-hikers are a frugal bunch. In our room at the Warner Springs Ranch (6 of us packed in with only 3 beds) "Moneyshot" spilled some chex mix. No worries. Following the ten minute/day rule we could have devoured this stuff off the carpet a week later with no problems.
