Chronicles of the Wayward Moot

WELCOME TO THE MOOT, oh world-wanderers and word-whisperers. After two years of Peace Corps. After 2,200 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail. What. Comes. Next?

Four more pics to round off the day's posts...
D0n't tell my mom that the pig somehow got into the living room and onto the couch. I don't know how this happened but it is NOT GOOD. After the fun of the wedding died down, I made a visit to the storm-ravaged lands of Slidell to survey some damage firsthand with my other photography-loving cousin. Five months after Katrina, many people assume that much of the debris is cleared up and that people are getting back to their lives. Nuh UHH. In coastal Slidell, as you can see in these very sparse examples, the place is still a disaster zone.... the places where you can see collapsed roofs and smashed structures are the areas that sustained the least of the damage. Where the really powerful waves and wind came through, there is nothing left to take pictures of. Entire houses dissappeared from the water's edge. Not just a few, but dozens and dozens, leaving a dreary and eerily quiet skeleton of pilings and tattered trees, like the dessicated bones of a long dead whale. It's a mean place to be, no doubt, and people in other parts of the country should remember that if they have any room in their hearts to care about their fellow men.

Boy, Slidell looks like hell. I remember driving through, and on occasion, stopping for some boudain. Damn. We miss you at the Natty G. MAM is having... issues.

How soon til Coral Gables? You'll have plenty of chance to practice su espanol en Mee-jamee. You will of course have to take a Saturday night stroll through Coconut Grove just to see the freeks. Good times. We went to Five Guys for ya. Post again soon.
